My Professional Therapeutic Approach

I believe that quality of life is as important as quantity and that much can be done to relieve suffering. Most people are, in fact, resilient and can heal from old wounds and correct self-defeating behavior with the proper assistance. Therefore, my approach, in most cases, is to understand the origin of the pain or dysfunction but not to stop with the cognitive understanding alone. In keeping with the precepts of ISTDP and EFT, the focus of therapy is on feelings, both conscious and unconscious. It is often the strategies we devise to keep difficult feelings from awareness that cause our pain and suffering.

In couples therapy, the focus is on our innate need and desire to establish connections. Again, the assumption is one of health, not disease. We want to connect and have relationships, but at times, some unfortunate patterns prevent us from achieving that goal.
